It’s been cold this winter for oh-so-long! My kids are always asking me for hot chocolate after a few hours out sledding or shoveling snow. We used to offer Riley a packet of Alpine Spiced Cider mix but you could see the longing in his eyes for that warm chocolaty drink with marshmallows floating on top. So finally we created a solution! Here’s our family recipe for a hot chocolate mix you can keep in your pantry for a chilly day.
Dairy Free Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoons cornstarch
Coconut milk, oat milk, soy milk or rice milk (your favorite milk alternative)
Optional: Marshmallows or non-dairy whip cream (like Soyatoo Whip)
Directions: Sift powdered sugar, cocoa, salt and cornstarch together. Transfer to an airtight container for storage. To make hot cocoa, heat 1 cup non-dairy milk in the microwave or on the stove to desired heat (We usually heat ours 1 minute in the microwave but always test to be sure it is not too hot for little ones). Stir 3 Tablespoons of mix into heated milk alternative until well mixed. Top with marshmallows or non-dairy whip if desired.
We hope you enjoy this delicious hot chocolate as much as we do!!
